Duck Dog Retrieves Owner in Heroic Rescue

When a man got stuck in chest-deep mud last week in Springfield, Ohio, an unlikely hero came to the rescue.

The unnamed man was taking down duck blinds, covers that hunters use to stay out of sight of their prey, with his dog, when he became stuck in mud and water that was reported to be 33 degrees. Thankfully, he had his cell phone with him and was able to call 911. When rescuers arrived at the location, they discovered that the water was too shallow for a boat.

The man’s dog, at this point had become frantic to return to his owner. One of the officers on the scene thought to attach the rope to the dogs collar. Man’s best friend came to the rescue once again, taking the rope to his human and the man and dog were both safely returned to dry land. Proving that this dog can retrieve more than just ducks!

Travis Martin, a supervisor for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ watercraft division told reporters Black Lab with Mallardthat if the rescue hadn’t been so speedy, it might not have turned out so well. “He could have been in danger of suffering hypothermia,” Martin says. “Luckily he had his cell phone. And his dog.”

It just goes to show, never leave home without your trusty pooch.
