Trump Slaps a 200% Tariff on French Champagne & EU Spirits

President Donald J. Trump is once again standing up for America! On Thursday, he announced a bold move—slapping a massive 200% tariff on French Champagne and other European spirits. This is a direct response to the European Union’s unfair 50% tariff on American whiskey, proving once again that the EU is one of the most exploitative, anti-American trade blocs in the world.

Trump took to Truth Social to call out the EU’s blatant abuse, vowing immediate action if their whiskey tariff isn’t scrapped. “We will shortly place a 200% tariff on ALL WINES, CHAMPAGNES, & ALCOHOLIC PRODUCTS COMING FROM FRANCE AND OTHER E.U. REPRESENTED COUNTRIES,” Trump declared. He rightfully pointed out that this will boost U.S. wine and champagne producers, creating more American jobs and stronger businesses.

This latest escalation comes after the EU foolishly reinstated U.S. steel and aluminum tariffs, showing zero respect for fair trade. Trump, a master negotiator, isn’t letting them get away with it. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick confirmed that Trump is “totally annoyed” and ready to hit back hard.

Markets are reacting! European liquor stocks, including LVMH, Remy Cointreau, and Pernod Ricard, are tanking under pressure. Meanwhile, U.S. brands like Jack Daniel’s are also feeling the effects—but Trump’s strong stance will level the playing field.
