Some days, we all struggle with getting ready and beginning the day. Even those with highly competitive personalities have days when they need a little motivation to get them going.
While we know you are not really allergic to hard work, we hope these tips will encourage you to overcome your motivational obstacles.
Find your passion
It really is true: when you do what you love, it isn’t work because you want to do it. If you feel like every workday is a challenge that fills you with dread, then perhaps it’s time for a change. Are there other positions in your company where you might be able to switch? Perhaps a complete change of career and company are in order?
Consider what it would take to land a job you would love. Make a list of steps to take you from where you are to where you want to be. In the meantime, re-evaluate what it is about your current job or workplace that causes your negative feelings. Are there internal changes you can make to improve your daily experience?
Establish a routine
If you create a schedule for yourself, it will be easier to start the day knowing what to expect. Schedules don’t have to be restricting – quite the opposite. For example, by sleeping the same number of hours a night, you will fall asleep faster and feel more rested in the morning. There is a lot to be said for the health benefits to your mind and body from a restorative night of sleep.
Knowing that you are arriving at work and leaving with regularity will also help.
Think of small ways to make yourself happy. Do you love the taste of an organic latte? After the workday is done and you have put in your time, immediately reward yourself in some small way. Whip up that special beverage or healthy snack, or maybe purchase a new song for your iPhone.
Whatever it is you enjoy that doesn’t take a big financial commitment can be a reward. Do you long for a night out on the town? Make a plan with your friends for the weekend. Then as you work through the week, you can battle boredom by thinking ahead to the fun that awaits.
Teach yourself to be optimistic
Celebrate the milestones in your life that have led you to where you are today. Review the accomplishments you have made, even from an early age. Anytime you overcame an obstacle is a moment to cherish, as each success builds upon a prior one. These victories should be reminders that when you push yourself, great things can happen.
No one can truly limit your possibilities except yourself. So stop holding yourself back and start making a list of new dreams to tackle.
