An urgent nationwide recall has been issued after loaves and rolls from Upper Crust Bakery were found to contain glass fragments that could cause serious injuries if consumed. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified this as a Class II recall, meaning the product poses a potential health risk, including cuts to the mouth, throat, or digestive tract.
So far, 818 cases of contaminated bread are involved:
- 699 cases of 18 oz Multigrain Sourdough (Lot #90, code CP12)
- 89 cases of 4 oz Ancient Grains Hoagie Rolls (Lot #90, code CP45)
- 30 cases of 20 oz Whole Grain Multigrain Bread (Lot #92, code CP12)
These products were shipped frozen in corrugated cartons typical for cold storage distribution. Customers should not consume these items under any circumstances. Even tiny glass shards can cause gastrointestinal tears, choking, or lead to life-threatening infections like sepsis if punctures occur in the stomach or intestines.
While no injuries have been reported yet, experts warn that the risks are real. Swallowing sharp objects like glass carries up to a 15% higher risk of internal puncture, according to medical research.
