Under President Donald J. Trump’s leadership, the United States Treasury has secured a landmark minerals agreement with Ukraine and announced the creation of the America-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund. This historic partnership guarantees Ukraine continued access to American military support in its defense against Russia, while responsibly tapping into Ukraine’s abundant rare earth resources — a fair reimbursement for the billions the U.S. has invested in safeguarding freedom abroad.
For Kyiv, this deal represents a vital lifeline, in recognition of the “significant financial and material support” the United States has provided to Ukraine’s defense. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized that this economic alliance will position both nations to collaborate on accelerating Ukraine’s economic recovery. By coupling security assistance with smart resource investment, the Trump administration makes clear that American strength and generosity go hand in hand.
President Trump first signaled his vision in February, calling for U.S. access to Ukraine’s critical minerals as part of a mutually beneficial arrangement. Although initial talks briefly stalled after a spirited Oval Office discussion with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Trump team’s perseverance and tough negotiation tactics ultimately yielded a successful agreement, underscoring Trump’s reputation as a dealmaker who doesn’t back down.
On Wednesday, Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko officially signed the investment fund agreement. “Together with the United States, we are creating the fund that will attract global investment into our country,” she wrote on X.. “Its implementation allows both countries to expand their economic potential through equal cooperation and investment. The United States will contribute … including new assistance, for example, air defense systems for Ukraine.”
Thanks to President Trump’s unwavering commitment to American interests and global security, this natural resources deal lays the groundwork for a stronger, more prosperous Ukraine — and a safer, more secure United States.
