6 Ways to Bust a Bad Mood

If you frequently find yourself waking up wishing that you could stay in bed and escape the daily grind, consider incorporating  just a few actions that can transform your attitude and create a more enjoyable day.

Even if it’s already gotten off to a rough start, it isn’t too late to change things for the better.

Create a Grateful List

If you can squeeze just an extra five or ten minutes into your day, writing down everything in your life you have to be grateful for can provide an instant transformation from blah to at least content, if not happy.

This is one of the easiest ways to change a bad attitude, and it’s also a great stress reliever. Your list can include even what may seem to be the most trivial things – and that’s the point, you’ll learn to focus on what you have instead of what you don’t have.

As you go through your day, try to think about some of the things you’re grateful for. Enjoy the little moments, like sipping that perfect cup of coffee or your favorite song that came on the radio.

Be Kind to Others

You’d be surprised at the difference even a small act of kindness can make. One of the best ways to improve your attitude and have a better day is to take time to connect with other people. Instead of rushing by in a hurry to accomplish that next task, smile at the person who walks by, or take time to stop and say hello.

Offer a sincere thanks to those who help you, whether they are paid to do the job or not. Not only will you feel better, but they will too. Giving a heartfelt compliment to those you sincerely feel deserve it will also do the trick.

Remember, when you’re feeling happy, those around you will likely emulate this positive energy.

Start the Day by Meditating

Starting your morning with just five or ten minutes of meditation can make the entire day go better. The sense of calm and tranquility you’ll feel will enable you to handle any challenges you might face.

Meditation has been shown to yield a surprising number of health benefits in addition to increasing creativity, improving focus and memory and even feelings of compassion – all of which can make for a much better day and overall well-being.

Smile

Many studies have shown that smiling, even a fake smile, can actually make you feel happier and even reduce stress. One of the easiest ways to smile is to think about a wonderful past experience or envision yourself participating in a favorite activity.

Smiling is contagious; the more you do it, the more others around you will too – and the better you will all feel.

Get Active

Your body wasn’t meant to sit in a chair all day; not getting enough physical activity can negatively impact your emotions. Exercise has long been shown to reduce stress levels and boost moods. Go for a walk or a run, take a yoga class, or just turn up your favorite tunes and dance. Music provides a double whammy effect!

If you’re eating an unhealthy diet, keep in mind that processed foods, fast foods and sodas are laden with chemicals and harmful toxins that contribute to a bad mood, lack of energy and an overall feeling of malaise.

The better your diet, the better your mood and your overall sense of well-being!

What will you do to have a better day tomorrow?
