What Are Ghost Poops and How to Have More of Them

Ghost poops – also called “no wipers” or “unicorn poops” – are bowel movements that leave no residue in the toilet or on toilet paper. These smooth, well-formed stools pass easily, sink to the bottom, and indicate good digestive health. According to the Bristol Stool Scale, ghost poops are classified as Type 4, which is considered the ideal stool consistency.

Dr. Ira Leeds, a colorectal surgeon, explains that ghost poops are a sign of well-functioning digestion. They require minimal effort to pass, reducing strain that can lead to issues like hemorrhoids and anal fissures. Unlike floating stools, which often indicate excess fat, ghost poops suggest that your body is efficiently breaking down and absorbing nutrients.

So, how can you have more ghost poops? First, increase fiber intake. Aim for 25-30 grams daily from whole grains, fruits, and vegetables to promote well-formed stools. Staying hydrated is just as important – water helps fiber do its job and prevents constipation.

Next, be mindful of foods that irritate your gut. Dairy, artificial sweeteners, and highly processed foods can contribute to inconsistent bowel movements. Regular exercise also supports digestion, keeping things moving smoothly. Finally, prioritize sleep and stress management, as both significantly impact gut motility.

By maintaining a fiber-rich diet, staying hydrated, exercising, and managing stress, you can improve your gut health and achieve more ghost poops!
