President Donald J. Trump took decisive action this week, putting an end to a secret, last-minute order from Joe Biden that had quietly extended Kamala Harris’ taxpayer-funded Secret Service detail beyond what federal law requires.
By statute, former vice presidents receive only six months of protection after leaving office. Harris’ coverage ended on July 21, 2025. Yet Biden slipped through an undisclosed directive granting her an additional year of protection—shielding her from the same accountability all other former VPs face. President Trump’s memorandum to Homeland Security on Thursday revoked that extension effective September 1, returning to the rule of law and cutting off what critics have called an unnecessary political favor.
“Any security-related procedures previously authorized by Executive Memorandum, beyond those required by law, are hereby discontinued,” Trump’s letter stated. The move ensures taxpayer dollars are not wasted propping up political elites with lifetime perks.
Harris, preparing to launch her book tour for 107 Days later this month, will now need to rely on private arrangements like any other former official. The millions it would cost annually to replicate full federal protection will no longer come from American families already burdened with high inflation and record government spending under Democrats.
Trump’s decision underscores a broader principle: fairness, accountability, and respect for the law. While Democrats frame the move as vindictive, supporters see it as a long-overdue correction to Biden’s secretive political shielding. After all, the President himself has faced multiple assassination attempts while still leading the nation—yet continues his work with courage and transparency.
Once again, Trump has shown he is willing to cut through Washington games and restore integrity where the Biden administration quietly bent the rules.
