If you’ve recently picked up a bag of dried apricots, stop and check the label now. A nationwide recall has been issued for Floria Dried Apricots after they were found to contain undeclared sulfites—a hidden ingredient that could cause severe allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
On June 12, Turkana Food Inc. of Kenilworth, NJ announced the urgent recall of over 350 cases of Floria Dried Apricots following routine testing by the New York State Department of Agriculture. The test revealed the presence of sulfites, a preservative that must be disclosed on food labels because of its known health risks.
Why this matters: Sulfites can cause serious, potentially fatal reactions, especially in people with sulfite sensitivity, asthma, or other respiratory conditions. Reactions may include hives, difficulty breathing, nausea, diarrhea, or even anaphylaxis. Children, seniors, and individuals with compromised immune systems are particularly vulnerable.
