Zelenskyy Scrambles as Trump Calls the Shots on Ukraine Deal

U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has put forward a so-called “peace framework” between Ukraine and Russia, but let’s be honest – it all hinges on American support, something President Donald Trump has made clear will not be given without serious reforms. Starmer, along with French President Emmanuel Macron, presented the plan during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Still, Europe is only now realizing it needs to step up.

Starmer emphasized that European nations must contribute more to Ukraine’s security in a move that seems more like a desperate play for Trump’s favor. Even so, his proposal includes British troops and air force assets to enforce a peace agreement. However, without Trump’s backing, this plan holds little weight.

Meanwhile, Macron suggested a temporary 30-day ceasefire on strikes in Ukraine as a window to negotiate peace – yet another example of European leaders scrambling for relevance. Trump, on the other hand, has been firm in his America First stance, making clear that endless funding for Ukraine is not in the cards.

Zelenskyy, facing growing criticism, is now in full damage control mode after a tough meeting with Trump and Vice President JD Vance. Despite his poor showing, he still clings to hopes of striking a rare earth minerals deal with Trump’s administration. However, Secretary of State Marco Rubio shut down any talk of U.S. security guarantees before peace is achieved, reinforcing Trump’s position that negotiations must come first.

On Capitol Hill, Republicans are rallying behind Trump’s stance. Senator Lindsey Graham called on Zelenskyy to step aside if he can’t get with the program. “Either resign or change,” Graham stated bluntly. Zelenskyy, defensive as ever, fired back, but Graham dismissed the noise, emphasizing that Americans no longer trust Ukraine’s leadership.

Trump is calling the shots, and the world knows it. Zelenskyy’s credibility is sinking fast, and the message is clear: If Ukraine wants U.S. support, it’s time to do business on Trump’s terms.
