If you’ve got Johnsonville cheddar bratwurst in your fridge, it’s time to double-check the label. On April 5, 2025, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced a recall of approximately 22,672 pounds of Johnsonville’s cheddar bratwurst due to potential contamination with hard plastic.
The affected product is the 19-ounce package of “Johnsonville BRATS CHEDDAR Bratwurst,” containing five sausages in a sealed tray. Look for the package code B9FOD and establishment number “EST. 1647” on the front label. These items were distributed to stores in Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
The recall was issued after multiple consumers reported finding hard plastic pieces in their sausages. Fortunately, no injuries or illnesses have been reported so far, but the FSIS urges consumers not to eat the product. Instead, return it to the store where it was purchased or safely discard it.
