17 Secrets of Super Healthy People

We’ve looked at the lives of some super-healthy people and listed all the things they seem to have in common.

They sleep. While we all sleep, super-healthy people know to go to bed at approximately the same time every night; they do not look at blue screens before going to sleep; they follow the same bedtime routine every night and get a minimum of eight hours a night of restful sleep. Even better, they remove all artificial light sources from their rooms to ensure the room is completely dark.

They don’t stress. Stress taxes the adrenals, the heart, and the entire immune system. Super-healthy people manage to not let stress get the better of them. Daily meditation can help to manage stress.

They eat an apple a day. A red apple a day does appear to keep the doctor away. The antioxidant called quercetin is known to strengthen the immune system. 

They drink plenty of water. Water is the most abundant macronutrient in the body and serves many functions, like removal of waste, cellular hydration, transportation of nutrients, flushing of toxins, and much more. Drink half your bodyweight in ounces for great health. 

They limit their alcohol intake. Sure, wine has certain beneficial antioxidants. But alcohol also depletes nutrients and stresses the liver when enjoyed a bit too much. Make drinking an occasional pleasure rather than a nightly habit.

They eat sitting down. When you take the time to sit down for a meal, you are giving your body the chance to properly prepare for the digestive process. By chewing thoroughly, you’re making your body’s job easier, and the nutrients of your food can be properly absorbed. 

They eat fat. Fat does not make you fat. As a matter of fact, fat is needed for the makeup of your cell membranes. It’s a source of energy; it absorbs fat soluble vitamins A, D, E and K; it is needed for the adequate use of protein; it slows the absorption of food, manages inflammation, and of course it makes food taste good! Eat your fats!

They practice yoga. Or tai chi, or qigong, all of which are wonderful exercises not just for the body but also for the mind.

They wash their hands. Healthy people wash their hands before meals, after they go to the restroom, and whenever they touch things that are full of germs. We’re not advocating a sterile environment, but basic hygiene will keep germs at bay.

They don’t share personal items. You don’t share your toothbrush with others, do you? You should consider not sharing other personal items either, including lip balm, mascara, drinks, and other things that touch your face. If you don’t share your stuff, you don’t share germs. 

They live in the present. Super-healthy people are well aware that regrets about their past or worries about their future will take away from living today to the fullest. Practice seizing the day.

They don’t eat sugar. Sugar messes with your blood sugar balance, does damage to the body, and it makes you want more. It adds empty calories and leads to weight gain. Opt for that red apple instead.

They experiment with food. It is well known that colorful fruits and vegetables are full of great nutrients for the body. Super-healthy people are not afraid to try new things when they come across them at the grocery store or the farmers’ market. If you need a little more help, check the internet for exciting recipes first, then make a shopping list for your next trip to the store.

They see the silver lining. You’d think that nothing bad ever happens to super-healthy people. That’s wishful thinking of course. But what you do with a bit of bad news, or a tough situation, makes all the difference. Seeing the silver lining helps your mood and your immune system.

They find a purpose. Finding a purpose in life doesn’t have to be a job. It can be something you’re good at, something you love and feel passionate about. People who fill their free time with purposeful activities are happier and healthier.

They forgive themselves and others. We are all human, and we all make mistakes, big and small. Rather than getting stuck in a situation where you are angry and upset, learn to let go. A mistake made is a lesson learned. Onward.

As you can see, being super healthy is a combination of taking care of the body and the mind. It takes dedication and loving yourself to reach great health and happiness. But it is well worth the effort.
